Melbourne Metro Project – Parkville Station
Melbourne Metro is a critical city-shaping project that will overhaul Melbourne's rail network, resulting in major improvements in capacity, reliability and travel times across the bulk of the metropolitan rail lines.
The project has been declared under the Major Transport Projects Facilitation Act 2009 and is undertaking the planning approvals process. This will involve a comprehensive assessment of the project, supported by environmental and technical investigations, and stakeholder engagement. Briefly:
The new stations delivered by Melbourne Metro will improve access to public transport and support the continued development to these key inner precincts:
Arden Station (North Melbourne) will serve a proposed major urban renewal development and is expected to support over 22,000 jobs and over 20,000 residents.
Parkville Station will connect Parkville and the surrounding hospitals and university precinct to the heavy rail network for the first time.
CBD North Station will provide an interchange with Melbourne Central Station and access to the northern CBD precinct including RMIT and areas north of Victoria Street.
CBD South Station is expected to be the busiest of the new stations. CBD South Station will include an interchange with Flinders Street Station and improve access to the southern CBD and surrounds including Collins Street, Federation Square, Southbank and the Arts Precinct.
Domain Station will be located beneath St Kilda Road, between Domain Road and Toorak Road and will provide for a major new tram interchange. The new station will significantly improve public transport services to the St Kilda Road precinct, including the Shrine of Remembrance and the Botanic Gardens.
